West Bloomfield Nature Preserve
I have been visiting West Bloomfield Nature Preserve since early summer 2018. I don't go every week, but I have been many times, as part of taking care of the driving as my wife commutes to volunteering with the nearby Soul Studio. I have a few hours in the middle of the day in-between driving and taking care of email and other work. I have been fortunate now to have seen it in every season. It can be a very absorbing experience, I frequently find that I get to what I consider the half-way point and more than two thirds of my time before I have to pick Jill up has already elapsed.
There is a lot of talk nowadays about the therapeutic benefits of walking in woodland, and to that I can add the boost of the looking-more-closely that photography entails. To some extent there is the challenge of looking for some new way to express what I see so many times with the camera, but at the same time the woods, ponds and streams are continually evolving. Most times I am fortunate with the weather, ignoring hot and cold, and the sky is normally lost in the trees, so going round in the middle of the day is not an issue, but I have been there in a snow storm, so I can always be sure of an absorbing walk.
