As a project, this owes its origins to my first trip to Scotland in 2017. Trees and woodland had been in my photographs from the beginning, but the issue of how environment could impact survival of species only came to the fore then, and helped to bring these photographs together. I continue to look at how forestry in the twentieth century focused on dense monocultures to produce a crop as quickly as possible while leaving no opportunity for any other living being, and developments that might lead to more varied environments that can allow space and light for trees and animals and birds to prosper and travel their full range.
